Building a Greenhouse

Build a Greenhouse
It has been a lifelong dream of mine to build a greenhouse. My love of gardening both flowers, vegetables and herbs is something that is handed down for generations. Mom always had the most stunning flower gardens, she loved the dirt, digging and planting were her “jam”.
On the other hand my dad was a farmer at heart and loves the vegetable garden. He grew HUGE gardens that rendered much more than the two of them could consume alone. They were always canning to preserve what they grew. My parents had a greenhouse so they could start their own garden (and store the mess of pots and implements).
They tried all the fads of gardening, one year half their tomato plants were hanging in bags from the greenhouse. Dad wanted to see if they did better, but he found there was nothing like Terra firma. The tomatoes only hung one year, it didn’t work “as advertised”.
Glass or plastic?
For his greenhouse, my Dad had access to real glass, so he framed everything and put each piece of glass in place. The greenhouse stood next to the driveway behind the gate, it looked just like a greenhouse.
I always thought if I were to build a greenhouse, I would want to be more creative. We have some property, one day I drew out our greenhouse. Hubby liked my idea, next thing I knew he was drawing it to scale and we were staking out our own greenhouse.
We had almost all the materials, only thing needed was 4 bags of cement. The rest of the materials came from a porch and roof we had next to a 5th wheel. We unscrewed the entire thing, organized the materials, this is what we are using, just “re-fashioned”.
What will it look like?
Remember I had a plan to build a greenhouse and the greenhouse wasn’t to look like a greenhouse. Besides, the material we had collected to build a greenhouse was not necessarily CAPABLE of looking like a greenhouse.
Instead of glass we had clear wavy plastic to build a greenhouse roof and walls. We did not have enough so we decided the bottom half of the outside wall could be the tin material we had on the RV porch.
At this point I knew the materials we had would not allow for us to build a greenhouse conventionally and I was ecstatic. Stay tuned as I reveal what our greenhouse will resemble.
